TWO MARACAS were once inseparable friends, to the point where one couldn't do without the other. "You are my dearest friend", one told the other, and always appeared together in music shows. The other musical instruments, harmoniums, guitars and violins were jealous of their strong friendship.
During one music performance, however, it so happened that one of the two maracas earned a bigger round of applause than the other. A sly violin then, who loved gossip and petty quarrels, thought it was a good opportunity to sow discord between them.
"Your friend is jealous and wants to do you harm", the violin told the second maraca. "You saw how she made sure she would get more credit than you. Be warned then that the day, when she will be performing without you, is close". As soon as she heard it, she went mad. "The violin is right... how could she possibly earn a bigger round of applause than me? I'll show her who's the boss...", she thought and locked herself in her room. Only a few minutes later, however, she shed tears for her good friend. "I feel... betrayed", she cried. The cunning violin then approached the first maraca. "Your friend is jealous and means to do you harm.", he warned her. "Be very careful because the day, when she will trip you up on stage, is close". She went equally mad to hear it. "Shame on her for making plans behind my back... I'll teach her a good lesson!", she said and went to her room as well. As soon as she closed her door, however, she, too, started crying for her friend to the point where her eyes became red and swollen. And so, our good maracas, the inseparable friends, remained behind closed doors, each one crying for the other non-stop, to the point they didn’t notice that time passed and they were late for a music show. The other musical instruments found it strange and started looking for them all over the music school. Then they saw their closed doors, and asked them to come out. And so they did, both with their eyes red. "The violin told me you are jealous of me and want to harm me...!", they both exclaimed at the same time. As soon as the musical instruments realized what had happened, they turned towards the violin, who became red with shame and ran away to hide without giving any explanation. "It's your fault for giving this gossipy violin's words credit", the piano told them, and then they all went to the stage to put on the music show. The violin only showed up after the performance had ended to apologize and ask for forgiveness. The maracas, on the other hand, were so happy that their friendship had proven its strength that they gave their best self on stage. As soon as the show was over, they appeared hand in hand in front of the crowd to earn their applause. Since that time, they became inseparable friends again, just like before, and earned their lesson not to pay heed to gossip....
