AN ELECTRIC GUITAR that once lived in a music school thought herself better than the other musical instruments. "Thanks to electricity, I sound better than any acoustic guitar", she boasted. The other musical instruments recognized her talent on one hand, but found her arrogant on the other.
The days passed, and the electric guitar kept surprising everyone. One day, however, the unexpected happened: the lights went out and the music school plunged into darkness. The musical instruments stopped their rehearsal to get candles and matchsticks so as not to stumble on one another. "What happened to the lights?", they all wondered. The electric guitar then, who remembered that she had forgotten to pay the electric bill on time, became red with shame. Not wanting to admit her mistake, she told them: "They announced there would be a power cut today, and the lights should be back any minute soon". Then, after gathering again on the stage with their candles lit, they thought of waiting. No sooner had five minutes passed, and the diligent violin, who never missed a rehearsal, told them: "It's in our best interest to continue working, as the professional musician should be always practicing, even when there is no light". And so, all the musical instruments, trumpets, flutes, drums and violins started playing music with the light of candles to accompany them. The only one not to play was the electric guitar, who sat in her corner silently. When the other musical instruments realized it, they asked her to join their company, full of curiosity as to whether she would prove to be as talented as the days before, when she was using electricity. Thinking herself a natural talent, she hesitated in the beginning, only to accept the challenge a few minutes later. "You sound like... the regular guitar, the acoustic!", the other musical instruments told her with amazement. Yet she became angry, as she realized that without electricity to aid her, she wouldn't be able to boast that she was better than others. "My sound has no need of artificial enhancements to sound good", the acoustic guitar objected. She then played a tune so as to prove to the other musical instruments that, contrary to the electric guitar, she was the natural talent. As soon as she finished her first song, they burst into applause, as they found her sound was very fitting to candle light. And so, our good electric guitar was left in her corner to wait until the rehearsal was over. She, then, took the electric bill and went to pay it, so that the next time the instruments would rehearse to be properly prepared. From that day on, she never boasted again about her talent, and also made sure she paid the bill on time....
