THERE WAS ONCE AN EGGPLANT that loved her shoes so much that she would never take them off. She wore them all the team, day and night, and would never put on another pair or buy new shoes. In the end, they ended up worn out with use and full of dirt.
The eggplant repairs her shoes
“I love them sooooo much, that I will never take them off to wash them”, she would say to the other fruit and vegetables. So weeks passed, and the weeks became months, yet the eggplant would not put on another pair of shoes. So one day, the inevitable happened: she woke up and found out that her favourite shoes were worn out and their soles had come off.
She sad was she to see them torn, that when the other fruit and vegetables suggested she throw them away and buy a new pair, she started crying. “It was about time you threw them to the dustbin!”, they told her, but she wouldn’t listen. So she thought of repairing them. So one day she went to the nearest village to get repair tools. She bought an anvil, nails, new soles, and every other piece of equipment she thought she might need, and then went back. As soon as she stepped through the door, she put the tools in place and got cracking. “It shouldn’t be as hard as everybody thinks it is”, she thought. She then grabbed the nails and the hammer, placed the first shoe on the anvil, and started nailing the first soles. A couple a minutes later she had filled the sole with holes, totally unable to nail it on the shoe. “If I perhaps use glue I might make it”, she thought. So she went to buy the strongest glue she could find and new soles to fit her torn shoes. After working hard on them, she made them look like new. She wore them with great relief, then went out in the garden so as to get noticed by the other fruit and vegetables who were playing football. “You won’t believe it; my shoes are like new!”, she told them, and gave the ball a good kick. Soon after, the soles were torn apart yet again. She continued to run after the ball with her bare feet, which were soon filled with dirt. As soon the other fruit and vegetables saw her, they burst into laughter. So ashamed was she that she left her torn shoes in the middle of the field and went home to cry. To make up for her, the other fruit and vegetables bought her a pair of shoes that was an exact copy of the ones she had before. And she finally had her lesson, to keep her shoes clean and well-kept instead of overusing them....
