ONCE UPON A TIME in a grocery store there lived a parsley who was really vain and who loved to draw the attention of the other fruit and vegetables. On their side they considered him rather puffed up and ignored him. So one day, in a final attempt to get noticed, he announced them his big dream: he would become an actor!

The fruit and vegetables of the grocery store were astounded to hear him, as they had never thought somebody of such great talent was to be found among them. Furthermore, there was nothing reminiscent of a theatre stage in the grocery store, as the walls were grey and crates, torn papers and empty boxes were to be found in every corner.
“By the end of the night I will prove to you how wrong you are not to believe in my talent”, said the parsley. “The only thing I want you to do is to simply go for a walk and come back after sunset”.
Hence they went outside for a walk, full of curiosity as to what the parsley was "cooking", and waited patiently for the sun to set. On their return, they were speechless to see that the walls of the grocery store had been painted black, and a sign was placed just above the entrance that read: “Art Theater - Parsley”. They walked through the front door full of enthusiasm, only to encounter an even greater spectacle: instead of the usual empty boxes and crates, comfortable seats were to be found, and at the back of the room a red curtain that hid a large, wooden theatrical stage. Microphones, speakers and spotlights were also to be found hanging from the walls and ceiling. There was nothing to be found that would give the slightest hint that this used to be a grocery store only a few hours ago. The fruit and vegetables sat with great impatience on their seats and waited for the parsley to present the show he had promised them. As soon as the last of them had sat, the lights went off and the spotlights turned on the curtain of the stage. The red curtains soon withdrew to reveal… the parsley, who wore a fabulous theatrical costume and had his face painted with white dye so as to resemble a real actor. Full of enthusiasm, the fruit and vegetables gave him a big round of applause. With all the spotlights on him, the parsley walked to the center of the stage, then announced: “I could not think of anyone else as talented as me to cooperate, so I would rather recite a poem to you all by myself”. Everybody then locked their eyes on him and waited for him with bated breath to recite the poem. Having spent the time on converting the grocery store into a theatrical stage, the parsley then realized he had forgotten the poem in the mean time. Being his first time on a theatrical stage, he was so anxious that he felt his palms sweating all over. When, at some point, he managed to remember the first verse of the poem, he was so anxious that he shrieked. Half of his audience was scared and the other half burst into laughter. They let him speak out the poem, then gave him a round of fake applause. Seeing that they were making fun of him, so red with shame did he get that he started running to get away. The tomatoes then first stood up from their seats, climbed the stage and chased after him. The next day, and realizing he had become the laughingstock of the grocery store, he offered to paint the walls back to their original color and took down the sign from the door. The seats however, along with the stage, were left untouched, as the very next day all the fruit and vegetables of the grocery store decided to collaborate so as to put on a show about veganism....
