The cauliflower at the flower shop

A CAULIFLOWER once thought really high of himself, thinking he was as beautiful as a flower. “I’ll decorate a flower shop one day”, he told the other fruit and vegetables of the garden. Yet, he simply sat in his corner and waited for good things to come.

Things changed actually when, one cold winter day, the owner of the garden came to collect orchids from the flower bed nearby. The cauliflower thought he finally found the chance he always wanted and jumped right into the farmer’s bag. To be on the safe side, he even hid among the orchids so the farmer wouldn’t notice him.

When the farmer finally reached the flower shop, the cauliflower sneaked out of the bag and sat next to the cashier. The clerk then got really confused, thinking it was her mistake that she brought a vegetable in the flower shop. As she loved vegetables, however, she found it really hard to dispose of. Instead, she placed the cauliflower on a shelf that was both shadowy and with little moisture, as she knew cauliflowers are very sensitive vegetables.

Our good cauliflower felt very happy, as he had finally found its proper place on the shelves of a flower shop. Proud as he was, he scanned through the other flowers to see if there was any of them that was prettier than him. What really troubled him, however, was the presence of fake flowers in the shop. “Remarkable that you can stay in the Sun for as long as you want”, the cauliflower told them full of curiosity, realizing that they would likely be the first to be sold, as they were the closest to the showcase and easily caught the attention of passersby.

“That’s the price you pay for your sensitivity”, the fake flowers replied, then moved into position. As soon as the flower shop opened its doors, the customers bought all of them. “Highly likely we’ll be left last”, the cauliflower told two mimosa flowers that were placed next to it, as it is a well-known fact that mimosas are also extremely sensitive and require specific temperatures to remain fresh.

A few hours later they found themselves alone in the flower shop, as all the other flowers had been sold out. “It’s unfair that the fake flowers are sold first just because they can stand being closer to the showcase…”, the cauliflower complained and burst into tears. A housewife then entered the flower shop, she skipped the mimosa flowers and paused in front of the cauliflower.

“I find it very unique, as cauliflowers are very sensitive, just like real flowers!”, she told the clerk and bought it along with the mimosa flowers.

From that day, our good cauliflower decorated not only her living room, but also the big basket of healthy nutrition that she keeps in her kitchen.
