A SURF BOARD that once lived on a beach was once very proud of her swimming skills.

“Yet, how come we’ve never seen you dive?”, a pair of flippers told her one day and she got angry, as it was rather true she had been training in all sorts of swimming techniques, but had never dipped her head inside water. As soon as she 'tried to' in front of them, however, the flippers burst into laughter as she would simply never sink.

They, then, jumped in the water and demonstrated their diving skills to her. So fast did they swim even, that our good board had to do her best to reach them: she splashed everyone around her with water by trying to paddle as fast as she could. The more she tried to, the faster the flippers swam to get away, however. The beach gear gathered to observe the show, enjoying the sight from the safety of the beach.

After a while, the flippers emerged to see where they were. “Here!”, they told the surf board, then dived even deeper so as to confuse her. Their trick worked, and the surf board didn’t know where to go. So, she went… everywhere, splashing tons of water in all directions without really making sense of what she was doing.

“Unless you dip your head in the water, you can’t possibly dive”, a buoy that was nearby told her. Our good surf board then decided it was time to do so: she threw her paddles away, then gave a big dive so as to follow the flippers. After a few minutes, they both reached the beach.

As soon as she emerged, the beach gear and the flippers were left speechless: “the surf board turned into… a sub marine!”, they exclaimed, making fun of her on one side, while, at the same time, admiring her on the other.

So proud was she of overcoming her fear that day, and after earning a big round of applause, that ever since she enjoys regular dives, with or without the company of flippers.
