AN EXOTIC FRUIT THAT CAME FROM BRAZIL once visited Greece and our well-known grocery store, where he made a lot of new friends. The fruit, known as Guarana in his home country, turned out to be very talented in football. So much did he crave attention, however, that he would never pass the ball to other players.
One day, the fruit and vegetables of the garden decided to organize a football tournament, and the Guarana was really excited to hear it, seeing it as the opportunity he always craved so as to be recognized as the top goal-scorer.
The fruit and vegetables split into teams and gave the initial kick-off. The Guarana then went after the ball, always making sure to keep it for himself so as to be the only goal scorer. “This has to stop at some point!”, his co - players, the mango and the pineapple, angrily told him one day when they met him in the changing rooms.
The Guarana would not listen, however, and when, after he lost an important goal, his team was almost disqualified in the semi-finals, his co-players got really mad at him. “Maybe it would be better if you sat on the bench for tomorrow’s final”, they scolded him as soon as the match ended. The next day then, the day of the finals, the Guarana apologized to his co-players and asked not to miss out on such an important match. They gave him the chance he wanted, only if he promised he would not keep the ball for himself. So it happened. The Guarana agreed, and the ball was kicked off. As the players from both teams did their best, the match soon went into extra time. When at some point the Guarana found himself kicking the ball, he ran towards the other team’s goalpost as fast as he could so as to be the scorer. “It’s my big chance!”, he exclaimed and kicked the ball as hard as he could, hoping he would make it before the other team’s defenders reached him. Much to his bad luck, however, he accidentally stumbled and twisted his ankle, and the other team's players closed in on him. “Pass the ball! Quick!”, his co-players shouted at him. So stubborn was he, however, that he ignored the pain and kept kicking the ball towards the other team's goalpost. The cherry then told him: “You don’t need to have it always your way!”. Seeing the other team’s defender were closing on him, the Guarana decided the very last moment to pass the ball to someone else so as to save the day. “Goooal!”, shouted the whole stadium as soon as the cherry scored. The fruit and vegetables watching the show then poured inside the field and applauded... not the cherry for scoring, but rather the Guarana who gave the pass. His whole team acknowledged his effort and gave him a big round of applause for his newly found team spirit. So, our good Guarana got his lesson and from that day on decided first to be a team player and then a goal scorer....
