A CHILD THAT LIVED IN AN ORPHANAGE had once forgotten to gather his toys, which were laying scattered on the floor. On the top of the room's bookcase, however, a piggy bank made of clay rest, on the back of which a small slot was to be found for money to be placed in.
The piggy was so filled with coins and banknotes that could barely move. So, it felt great pride, as it is indeed great bliss both for a piggy-bank not to be able to receive any more money and for a pig not to be able to move. So proud did it get, that it even looked down on the other toys in the room.
A rug doll shouted to them: "Since they've forgotten us out of our boxes, let's put on a theatrical show!"
The toys got excited with the idea. The wagon then said, however: "We might not be real actors, but we deserve an audience and proper salary". And then the rest of the toys agreed but could find nobody to watch their show, as the orphanage was closed for the night and everybody was asleep. Then they all asked the piggy bank with a single voice:
"Our good piggy-bank, since you're that high up on the bookcase and cannot move, please be our audience for the night. And if you like our show, you could even take out one of your coins and give us a reward afterwards".
The pig agreed, as it was placed so high in the bookcase that it had no other way to entertain itself. So, it thought: "I could just tell them I didn't like their show in the end and keep my money".
The toys put on a spectacular theatrical show in a way that would be best visible to the piggy bank. They even thought of starting with a comedy, then improvising based on what each was concerned with. And so, the clock started ticking "tik tok" and the train whistling "choo choo". Then each and every toy made a sound of their own.
Seeing they were doing well, they soon got in sync with each other and the play reminded of a musical show. Each and every toy unraveled their talent in front of the piggy bank which observed in amazement, as the only sound it had ever heard in its life was the sound of metal coins. So funny did it find the show, that in the end it got jealous that everybody was singing and dancing. As soon as the show was over, the rug doll came to the front and said:
"And now our good piggy-bank, if you liked our show, we would like to have our reward".
The piggy bank then replied: "I was not impressed. I was rather doing you a favor by being your audience. To prove it to you, I will sing and dance better than you".
It then stretched its two feet to dance, but as they were heavy, it barely even managed to move them. No matter how much the piggy bank tried to sing, it only let out an ugly growl. The toys kept staring at it with wonder.
The next time it made an attempt to stretch its feet, the piggy bank fell from the bookcase right on the floor. So painful was the fall, that the piggy bank tore apart into a thousand pieces. And so, the toys took their reward.
The next day, the cleaning lady threw the pieces of the piggy bank away and placed a brand-new piggy bank on its place on the top of the bookcase, with not a single golden coin placed in it. And so, the story of one piggy bank ends, and the story of the next begins. But we'll be closing our story here.
