ONCE UPON A TIME there was an ironsmith who loved beer so much that couldn’t stop drinking.
One night that he had drunk too much, and as he was taking a walk in a forest near his home, he felt dizzy. So, he sat under a big tree to get some rest, and closed his eyes. As soon as he opened them again, he saw a group of elves in front of him, who told him:
"Unless you stop drinking, you will soon be gone. If, however, you manage to stop your bad habit, will we give you a prize". And with those words disappeared from his eyes. The next day, he couldn't stop thinking whether it was a dream or reality.
He kept their words, however, and in the following days made a big effort not to drink. A few weeks later, he had stopped drinking altogether.
One day that and as he was working hard in his smithy, he heard a strange knock on the door. When he opened it, he was amazed to see a beer glass made of pure gold, tied with a red ribbon, standing right in front of him. "It's the prize we promised you!", he heard a voice speak out of nowhere.
That same afternoon, and as soon as he finished work, he went over to nearest pub to let off steam. As he filled the golden beer glass, however, he noticed that the beer was spilling on the floor, as the bottom of the glass had a hole. He burst into laughter with his lesson, realizing that from that point on he had no longer need of drinking.
As for the golden beer glass? Well, he keeps it in his house as a trophy, to always remind him how he stopped drinking.
