BACK IN THE OLD DAYS and when the earth was still inhabited by giants, one of them wanted to pass from Greece to Asia with his wife.
Not knowing the way, he took a giant stick to help him across the ocean and his wife gathered many stones in her huge apron, which she intended to throw along the way so as to track the way back. And so, they went on their way. As soon as they reached the shore, they met a man with worn-out shoes and asked him how far they still were from Asia.
"Asia is so far in the horizon, that my shoes were torn from the walk to here", the man replied and pointed at the sea. The giant was unfazed, however, placing his gigantic stick to rest with one side in Greece and the other in Minor Asia.
He and his wife then walked on the stick so as to cross the sea. Half-way through, however, the stick broke, and they both fell in the Aegean, raising huge waves which washed the sea shores from both sides.
The rocks that the woman had gathered in the apron fell in the sea and can be identified to this day as the many small islands and barren islets that are scattered throughout the Aegean, forever to remind of the giant's ambitious step.
