THE FISH THAT LIVE IN THE OCEAN were for a long time dissatisfied by the lack of order in their Kingdom. Nobody made way for the other, and they all swam in different directions often colliding with each other, without ever retreating or apologizing. Often times, the big fish would swallow or trample on the smaller ones, resulting in a complete chaos.
"What a great thing it would be", they thought, "if we had someone to impose strict order on us". So, they met and decided to hold a contest so as to elect a King who would be able to swim fast in the water so as to save the other fish, should they ever be in danger. They positioned themselves in the starting line, according to both species and size, and patiently waited for the signal to start swimming.
The whale then, who was in a privileged position thanks to her size, told the other fish:
"I should be the Queen, as thanks to my size I can even overturn the ships of humans and so they fear me".
"No, I should be the King", the shark replied. "As my jaws make me the terror of the high seas".
"The Throne belongs to me", said the swordfish. "As my nose is like a sword, I can protect the other fish better than anyone else".
As soon as a dentex gave them the signal all the fish, from the biggest whale to the tiniest anchovy started swimming, all aiming to prove to the others that they were the quickest.
First came the swordfish, whose nose enabled him to move quickly, piercing through the water. The clever shark, however, came close to him from behind and bit his tail to keep him back. As the whale was slow due to her many kilos and seeing she was left behind, she bounced on the bottom of the sea so that the rising dust would blind the other fish. And then each and every fish tried to take advantage of the chaos so they would pull the others back and be first.
Out of the murky waters then came out a guileless grouper, who goggled his eyes as soon as the whale hit the bottom of the sea, evading all the dust as a result. As soon as he reached the finish line first and the other fish realized what had happened, they brought a crown and put it on his head, with a heavy heart naming him "King of the fish".
