A STONE that once lived in a mountain was very lazy and barely ever worked out. Time would pass, and she would always remain stuck in the same place, enjoying the gurgling, cool water of the nearby spring next to where she sat.
One fine day that she woke up, however, she discovered that she was covered with moss. “If you only moved out of position now and then, this wouldn’t have happened”, the other stones told her as she tried to clean herself. In vain, however, as many hours passed and most of the moss wouldn’t go away. Tired, she went back to her position to enjoy the gurgling water of the spring once more, as if nothing had happened.
A couple of hours later the moss got so thick she could barely see. “Will it not go away eventually?”, the stone exclaimed. “That’s because you ‘re lazy and only cleaned part of it”, the other stones told her and laughed at her mishap. Embarrassed, and to make sure the same thing would not happen to her again, our good stone visited a hairdresser, who cleaned her head from the moss and even gave her a haircut with cool designs.
She looked at her reflection in the mirror and got excited. “Now everyone will be amazed at my haircut!”, she exclaimed and took the way back to the spring. As she was lazy, however, she only walked with slow, heavy steps.
The more she walked, the more she gathered moss from the ground which made her even heavier. At some point her step became so heavy that she felt as if the ground pulled her. She even got scared at the idea that all the cool designs the hairdresser had made would go to waste, as the moss she gathered started covering her all over again. “It’s futile…”, the stone murmured as she felt the control of her heavy step slipping away. When at some point she reached a slippery slope, however, she started rolling, and as she was unable to stop it, the more she rolled on the slope, the more the moss she had gathered dissolved. “Working out feels nice!”, the stone exclaimed as the felt lighter and lighter by the minute. As she reached the end of the slope, not only was she free of moss, but she even felt as if her batteries had been re-charged. She then took a casual walk to get back to the spring as if nothing had happened. “A rolling stone gathers no moss!”, the other stones told her as soon as they saw her approaching, filled with energy and clean from the moss that had troubled her. So much did she even love working out, that from that day on she always kept a skipping rope with her so she wouldn’t have to go through the same again....
